02/18/11: Radiohead Release New Album A Day Early

February 18, 2011 at 6:35 PM (News Commentary) (, , , , , )

Radiohead, currently the coolest band in the universe, prove yet again why they get the acclaim they get. Originally planned to be released on the 19th (or rather tomorrow), they released the digital album today, a day early, along with a music video for the first single “Lotus Flower” featuring a solo Thom Yorke basically doing an interpretive dance. I’ll take it. Hit the jump for the link as well as the video for “Lotus Flower”, which is a damn fine song.

02/17/11: Odd Future Kill Fallon

February 17, 2011 at 3:29 PM (News Commentary) (, , , , , , , )

Odd Future are quickly becoming my favorite act around and here is just another reason why. After killing “Sandwitches” for about 2 minutes, Tyler goes nuts and has the whole crowd chanting “WOLF GANG” without even asking. Although I don’t want to ruin the energy and gusto of the performance, so hit the jump to watch the video for yourself. Make sure to stick around until the very end. Swag.

5/16/10 – R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio

May 17, 2010 at 4:10 PM (Avery Island//Music, News Commentary) (, , , )

Let’s get this straight right now: I don’t particularly like Dio. I’ve never invested much time into his music, I’ve never really heard much beyond “Holy Diver”, etc. However, I am not ashamed to admit this unlike every douche on a social networking site “throwing horns” in the way of a King they never knew. So, with that in mind, I say it is a sad day not for me, but for every one that has been influenced in some way by Dio, basically the most important figure in modern Metal music along with Osbourne and Halford. Condolences to his friends and family.

Today saw the release of This Is Happening, the third and supposedly final album by LCD Soundsystem, aka James Murphy. Is it a winner? Hit the jump to find out.

New (Late) Review & Site Update

May 14, 2010 at 3:06 PM (Avery Island//Music, News Commentary) (, , , , )

First of all, here’s a review of last year’s The Resistance by Muse, arena-rock Gods, common man clods.

Secondly, we’re changing the scoring system here at AI. In the past, we’ve used the decimal-point system to ensure an exact amount of pretentiousness, but this is starting to hurt even me. From now on, we’re on the letter-grade scale, which is self-explanatory enough: A’s are excellent, B’s are great, C’s are above-average to average, D’s are meh to bad and F’s suck ass though a straw. Got it? Good!

And finally, we have a Nostalgia trip on Madvillainy by…well, Madvillain. Read it here:

New Review: Minus the Bear – Omni

May 5, 2010 at 2:14 PM (News Commentary)

So they’re back. Minus the Bear return to form with their newest LP Omni. Y’know, some bands stay indie for the creative expression it allows them. Others stay indie because major labels don’t want to touch them. Here’s a perfect example of the latter.
